Project title - still in sound
Name - Tushar Jain
Institution - IIAD
Date of submission - 11th May 2025
This sound-based installation would not have been possible without the support, guidance, and encouragement of many individuals, each of whom played a unique role in helping me shape this project.
I am sincerely grateful to my mentor, Shilpi Burman, for her steady guidance throughout this journey. Her critical insights, patience, and belief in my process gave me the clarity I often needed.
The seed for this project was planted during my initial discussions with my industry mentor Sudip Bhattacharya, whose workspace became a quiet incubator for my ideas in the first week. His openness gave me the space and freedom to imagine.
When I returned to campus, my first conversations with Aarti Oberoi, Sakshi Jain, Gagan Narhe, Nagesh Lakhan, Oshin Vipra Sagar were pivotal. They asked the right questions and helped me look at the potential of this project with fresh eyes. Their early guidance helped set the tone and direction for everything that followed.
A special thanks to Pankaj Bisht, Gurpreet Singh Ali , who patiently sat with me through many trials and helped me figure out how to bring out the shine in the mirror-finished dish. Their hands-on support and practical insights during fabrication made a big difference when I felt technically stuck.
I would also like to thank Anurag Dasgupta and once again Shilpi Burman, for helping me navigate the spiritual and meditative dimensions of sound — their suggestions deepened the way I approached research and meaning-making.
To my friends, thank you for walking with me. Pulokesh Garai, Kriti Aggarwal, and Sumeet Mitroo—your feedback, encouragement, and shared time on endless calls made the process lighter and more focused. You pushed me to stay confident even when I doubted myself.
A special thanks to Satyam Kathuria for sitting with me through countless day-and-night Google Meet sessions and patiently bringing my sketches to life through Blender. Your commitment and belief in the vision added a new layer of realism and possibility to the installation.
Gratitude to Amartya Chakraborty, Joel Sam Samuel, Stuti Mehrotra, Anoushka Tikoo, Hiral Agrawal, Sayan Kundu, and Rohan Khurana for all the small but significant ways you helped — from feedback to sharing contacts to simple, honest conversations that kept me grounded.
Thank you to Vyomika Saxena, Spoorti Bharadwaj, and Senona Illyas for working on the SketchUp floor plan and walkthroughs and sharing your interior architecture expertise when I needed it most.
To those who helped bring the physical form of the installation to life: Anirban Ghosh, Kaushikee Gupta, Anant Raina, and Shaaz Ahmed — thank you for stepping in during the tough stages of fabrication, wiring, and technical assembly.
I would also like to acknowledge the foundation faculty — Kishore Chakraborty, Pankaj Narain, Inderjit Singh, and Mohd. Urooj Ul Aziz — whose experience and advice helped me make key decisions, especially when refining the materiality and finish of the work.
To my family — Deepak Jain, Aneshia Jain, and Ruchika Goel — thank you for the emotional support and running around with me when deadlines approached. Aslam Khader and Manju Jain, thank you for helping me think clearly — whether it was by building sound taxonomies or simply grounding the concept with heart. And to Kusum Jain and Sonia Jain, your inputs from lived experiences and places visited added unexpected depth to the ideation process.
